We don’t all have equal opportunity.
But we all have the opportunity to be better than what we currently are.
We ALL have the opportunity to be, and do better than we did yesterday.
Let me say that again and allow it to sink in

So, I was wondering whether this had ever happened to anyone else?
In case you’re unfamiliar with how voice verification works, they make you record a predefined passcode that you then repeat every time you call and then compare it to the original recording. “My voice is my password,” as the saying goes. Please confirm my identity.”
When I used Wells Fargo’s voice verification in May, I was prompted for my passcode as normal, but then the voice prompts indicated that for further protection, I should repeat a second phrase, “don’t bite the hand that feeds you.”
The term itself was strange enough. However, it appears to me that the entire basis of voice verification is a comparison between your voice and the voice on the original recording of a statement. I’m not sure what’s going on with that second statement, given that I never documented it.
None of the representatives I spoke with could provide me with any information.
My friend said it had to have been hacked or something, but I was still connected to Wells Fargo and they had access to my account and everything. I tried phoning again, but I was unable to recreate the situation.
Has anyone else had this happen to them?
CANDID ADVICE
So someone in IT is having fun with a sentence from the old film Hackers. You most likely fluctuated too much, and it required you to recite another phrase (also from the film) to compare specific phrases or even syllables. I wouldn’t poke the system either, unless you want to go into a branch to double-check.
The problem is that I haven’t been able to recreate this scenario, and none of the reps have any idea what I’m talking about. They’ve even gone so far as to say I’m incorrect. Wouldn’t the reps know enough to confirm whether or not this was even a possibility? because some of them did not believe it was possible
I get what you’re saying; but, I’m not sure why it’s such a huge problem. What kind of malicious activity do you believe they were up to? I’m just trying to figure out where you’re coming from.
WF does not use one of the voice biometrics providers we do. Enrollment follows the same procedure. If the account has never had a voice print, a third party who has passed KBA or risk-based authentication can set one up. They may be able to avoid a voice print in some cases or with certain issuers. If you have a cold or are in a noisy environment, say so. At the very least, our procedures need you to have control of the mobile or online app and pass OTP, as well as at least 1-2 risk-based checks. Impersonations when the person on the other end of the connection with the customer OR the criminal has complete control over the victim’s cash and gadgets are still not impossible.
The Call Center and Branch will not have the answer you need. You must file a sensitive complaint or direct your inquiry to the back end fraud department.
I worked as an online representative at Wells Fargo and had never heard of anything like this happening. If voice verification fails, you should be directed to a representative who will manually verify your identity.
yeah. rather than attempting to voice verify me with a passphrase I’ve never even said before, correct? I haven’t been able to identify another person who has had this happen to them. I’ve switched banks since then, which was one of the key contributing issues, but it’s still something I’m attempting to figure out. unsuccessfully
It appears that you discovered an easter egg.
Our voice verification as employees is almost always successful. When I had bronchitis and was on that cough syrup, my voice dropped an octave and I couldn’t speak. When I took testosterone for the gym, my voice changed slightly as well, and I recall having trouble and saying a second phrase that I don’t remember recording, which was probably don’t bite the hand that feeds l. because I felt that phrase was odd I felt it was because I was snitching to government regulators who were harming customers. I didn’t pass second and had to confirm with the rep. When I inquired why I didn’t pass, the representative stated unequivocally that my voice did not match.
Yes…
I use it in conjunction with my Schwab account.
The program, I believe, is Pointsec.
The verification is based on specific fragments rather than the phrase itself. So “don’t bite the hand that feeds you” most likely contains a chunk from “my voice is my password.” There may be a threshold where your first tries were fairly close but only needed another verification, and if you were really far off, it would probably just kick off to a representative for human verification.
