I just opening a second account at wellsfargo (my old one is at Comerica) and got a new card. What’s odd is the 3 digit CVV number on the back is the same as my old one. I chose my pin myself but as far as I know the number of random.

Pure chance, or do they select the number based on something static like my SSN?

ANSWER 1

Pure luck, if you don’t like it, say if you think your card was/is compromised, have the bank replace the card for you. They will be happy to do so.

Interesting, thank you!

1 in 999 chance, but still a chance!

It is higher than that. The CVV is made using an algorithm of the 16 digit card number, exp date, service code, and bank’s private key.
