Someone RANDOM just sent me $420. It was immediately followed by a refund request stating that he had sent it to the wrong person, and then he sent another request for me to pay him the $420.

What should I do? Is this a ruse? There’s $420 in my cashapp balance right now.

Do I use the refund prompt to return the money?

(Do I really have to?) RECEIVED MONEY FROM UNKNOWN CASHAPP SENDER, should i send it back.

CANDID ADVICE

In most cases, they use another person’s credit card and claim it was a mistake, and when you send the money, the person with the credit card blocks the card and issues a refund while it’s processing, claiming that you lost 420 and can’t get it back since you knowingly sent it, so it’s a fraud.

To begin, yes, this is most certainly a scam; simply ignore all contacts until they come directly from CA Support (unlikely!).

FFR simply refuses the transfer in the first place and ignores any correspondence.

At this time, you can simply (2) press the Refund button to safely return it.

Just don’t return the funds in a separate transaction; that leaves you vulnerable to them withdrawing their original payment via a bank chargeback, which is how that scam operates.

The final alternative is to just (3) leave the monies alone for a full year without touching them.

Of course, if it was an unintentional typo on the sender’s part, that would not be the moral thing to do.

It will almost certainly be pulled back, and you DO NOT want to go negative.

The strange part is that there was no option for me to accept or decline the money; it just appeared.

Then he submitted a refund request; a minute later, he submitted a payment request for the same amount.

If it was a mistake, I figure he should give me another request today, and I’ll only acknowledge the return by pushing the refund button.

I believe they sent you this money falsely, and if you returned it to them, they might report the transaction. The $420 would then be withdrawn from your bank account and seized since the transaction was fraudulent, but the money you provided them was NOT fraudulent, therefore you wouldn’t be able to get it back because you sent it willingly. As a result, you’d be losing $420 twice. Do not return it, do not deposit it in your bank account, and do not do anything with it.

Yes, that is the ruse.

quite common

He emailed me another request, pleading with me to return it because it was a mistake. I only refunded money using the refund button; I denied all of his payment demands.

My stepbrother uses cashapp to pay his employees because he only has a few. He wired money to the wrong cashapp for three paydays for my brother, and the guy never returned the money. They had the same name as my brother, but the currency tag numbers differed by only one number.

It could also be a fraud.

It is preferable to have receivers issue a request to the payer.

to eliminate such errors

I ended up refunding it because he emailed me another request to please return it. I reimbursed it through the cashapp refund request, not through payment to him.

This appears to be a scam, and if it was a real error, you would be willing to keep the money.

So I was on the receiving end of a scam like this a few weeks ago. My previous debit card (which I had forgotten to deactivate) was used to transfer $420 and $419 to two other Zelle accounts. I detected them on my bank’s app the same day and had them charged back to me by my bank. But, presumably, those accounts were not also compromised.

CrapApp cost me $900. Never reply to a text or email claiming to be support. There is no assistance. They are disgusting.

Is the $420 still available? I’d have cashed out. Well, dammit, I need a little blessing, let’s share some joy brother, he messed up and I had the same thing for like $20 a while back, I even had someone get into my Cash app shortly after this happened.

Without a doubt, this is a complete swindle. This occurred to me maybe 5 or 6 years ago. It’s definitely not the appropriate thing to do, but I’d like to tell this scammer to screw off and keep his money. He probably deserves it. But, if it was a mistake, it would be dreadful, especially if it was all of their money/pay check/rent/etc. I’d contact Cashapp support and explain your situation so they’re aware of everything and can provide a swift solution. How do I close a fake CashApp account?

I was a victim of identity theft and never had the app, despite the fact that someone registered an account in my name. I only discovered out when I received a debit card in the mail. Things seemed bleak with no way to access’my’ account and no method to contact them other than through an app I’d never use. Oh, and I couldn’t find a phone number to call them.

I filed a complaint with the SEC.

That piqued their interest. My account has been closed. I also see that there is now a 1-800 number. Most likely not due of my complaint, but you never know.

CANDID ADVICE

That is something I must do. My account was hacked and 3k was wiped off, and they refuse to repay the money or even respond to inquiries. Something suspicious is going on with the currency app.

Excellent suggestion on the SEC lawsuit. Everyone ought should. If enough people complain, perhaps things will change.

Contact your state’s unemployment office.

They are most likely taking money and claiming UI in your name.

That’s an excellent point. Too late to check, not in my state, but someone did in the next state south. That’s how my mess began.

The state seemed unconcerned; they aren’t answering their phones due to ‘unusually high call volumes…’

Then check to see whether you are illegally registered to vote in said southern state. CashApp pales in comparison to government bureaucracy. RECEIVED MONEY FROM UNKNOWN CASHAPP SENDER, could it be a scam.

Support can be reached via https://cash.app/help, Twitter, Facebook, and in-app email.

As in, numerous channels are being used at the same time, so you should hear back within a week or so.

There is no phone support; only con artists pretending as such!
