Just utilise a burner account for the switch; don’t give up a bank that you wish to keep. Then, for the next switching bonus, simply use the account you switched to. It makes no difference what their app is like with this arrangement because you won’t be using it for banking.
To be honest, none of them. I’d use a burner for the switch and keep using Starling or Monzo for day-to-day banking.
There’s a reason why Monzo and Starling don’t need bribes to attract signups.
The NatWest app has always been useful for me because it has an area for tracking all payments, savings goals, and so on.
Have you utilised other apps and compared them?
It all depends on the features you want.
The Nationwide app is simple and easy to use in my opinion. Normal banking tasks are really simple. Two caveats: some products still require an actual card reader, and it lacks any “additional” features you would want, such as spaces or budgets.
The RBS/NatWest app (same bank, different branding) is less user-friendly and straightforward. It also lacks any “extra” features. You can avoid using the card reader by registering for “biometric approval,” but when I tried it, it was a waste of time (this is separate from your phone’s biometric security). However, it is functioning.
The first Direct app was perhaps the worst of the bunch. Security was a tangle that didn’t feel particularly secure (for example, relied on roughly 5 separate pieces of “memorable information” and 3 different passwords/passcodes). In terms of tracking, Natwest, most of what individuals do on excel spreadsheets can be done on the app.

Personally, I switched from NatWest to Starling since it was superior than the others. If I were you, I’d keep my primary account with Monzo or Starling and establish a secondary account to take advantage of all the switch incentives.
Stay away from NatWest. I switched to them and their app is absolutely shocking (in my opinion). My cards arrive, I never received PINS (requested online twice, once over the phone, and once in branch) and I still haven’t received them, I can’t use the card reader they give you without a PIN, and I can only do 5 transfers per day totaling £1000. I broke my phone, and when I set up my older one and got the app, I had to input a code they sent via text, only had 30 minutes to input the code, had no code sent to me, requested a code three times (maximum you can) and got no code, woke up and got texts with codes three hours after I requested the last and 2.5 hours after they expired. I’ve moved away from them and will never contemplate utilising any of their products again.
Many of these issues have been resolved; when did you have an account with them? There is face biometrics, thus there is a daily limit of £20k through app, and all card details, including pin, are viewable on the app.
When did you decide to accompany them?
Everyone else in the thread agrees that the app is fantastic.
I enjoy the NatWest app, but I despise the card reader. I’ve been with NatWest since 2020, and the app has greatly improved! Although not as fantastic as Starling or Chase, it is simple to use and pretty straightforward. I utilised Monzo as my burner account. In my opinion, both signing up and the app itself are terrible.
NatWest has by far the best app among traditional banks. By far.
I’ve been using the Nationwide app for years and love it.
I have a burner for switch deals because I recently switched from RBS to FD. Starling is my primary account, and I use Monzo for my flex card; I would never close either.
As far as I can tell, the NatWest app is quite similar to Monzo or Starling in terms of expenditure tracking. It has a modern appearance, all of the functionality you’d expect, and is stable.
Nationwide and First Direct are more basic and antiquated to me, but I haven’t used them much. As far as I can tell, Nationwide uses the card reader for security on almost every payment you transmit, which is inconvenient. NatWest allows you to transmit smaller amounts without any additional protection and larger amounts using face-ID biometric checks, which work well but are a little annoying, and I’d prefer a simple fingerprint scan.

What should I do if my credit card has outstanding fraudulent transactions? At the same time, I’m also abroad!

To my dismay, two pending transactions to different Tesco stores totaling more than £150 appear on my credit card statement. I don’t think the card was taken because I have it with me.
I’m not sure how this happened, but to make matters worse, I’m in the United States right now, and the bank’s hotline is closed. The hotel where I’m staying wants to accept a security deposit on the same card, which is also pending, but I’m now worried about it and other payments I was supposed to make for continuing accommodations.
I’ve frozen the card on the bank’s app since then. I guess all I can do now is wait till the support desk reopens tomorrow? Will they be forced to cancel the card? Isn’t there a number for assistance on the back of the card? I expected this would be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Your bank’s website should feature numbers, and as far as I know, most have either 24/7 fraud reporting numbers or a different call for after hours. For international calls, they’ll usually have a landline number, and my provider (Natwest) allows you to reverse charge if you use a landline.
If the worst happens, you can just report once the lines are open. It will make no difference in terms of getting your money back (although obvs if you have a low balance may affect cash flow etc).
